True Travel Tales

Justin Hall travels and sketches his way through Southeast Asia:

(self portrait by Em Satya)
Em Satya is a masterful artist, even more impressive considering that he now has partial paralysis on the right side of his body and has had to teach himself how to draw again with his left hand. He ekes out a living by illustrating educational tracts for aid groups operating in the country, and doesn't do comics per se anymore. He does, however, have a graphic novel of over a hundred pages that's virtually finished .. It was amazing meeting him, a genuine Cambodian national treasure, and a truly world-class cartoonist.

Herman, the Legal Labrador

From David B in Melbourne: Been wanting to watch the epic animated short "Herman, The Legal Labrador", but haven't had the time or inclination to harass the director for a copy?

Come 11:20pm, Saturday March 26, you can tune in to SBS' "eatcarpet"program and watch your favourite doggie lawyer in all his TV PREMIERING GLORY!  There will also be some stupid foreign films, but WHO CARES?!

SBS has a nifty notification feature. If you SMS the secret code:  4019
to the phone number 1990 0727, SBS will send you an SMS reminder before the show starts. I'm not making this up. Go here for proof:
http://www.sbs.com.au/whatson/index.php3?progdate=26:03:2005

Maybe you don't want to sit indoors on a Saturday night. In that case, make your way down to BAR OPEN (317 Brunswick St, Fitzroy) on the night, where we're going to be watching the SBS broadcast as it goes to air. Is it necessarily a good idea to try to watch TV in a bar? No. Is it an excuse to get together for fun? Yes! So be there.     http://www.nakedfella.com

GROOVIN GRAVY

Brad Daniel's is looking to publish a new issue of Groovy Gravy

www.tabula-rasa.info)

(issue 10 to be exact) for the Brisbane Supanova Con this April, and is looking for people interested in putting something together for it.
It'll probably be a limited print run... only one or two hundred printed up, but Brad is super keen do something new for the con.
Brad wants people to continue in the Groovy Gravy tradition with their piece... It doesn't aspire to be high art, just a bit of a giggle. Brad doesn't have a theme or anything yet, but he says they do have a tendency to appear of their own accord when people send stuff in.
If you wanna do something, just drop him a line [b r a d a.t. e d g e c o m i x d.o.t. c.o.m. (you figure it out)] and let him know what your idea is and how many pages you want.
The deadline for the receipt of stories is 26th of March.
Let him know if you're keen... Brad hasn't put together any comics like this for about 5 years... So it should be a challenge!

Dunedin Book Club

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dc-bc

DC/BC stands for 'Dunedin's Comics, Book Club'. The idea is a group of
Dunedin people who have a common fascination with comic books, getting
together and sharing comic books and their thoughts about them. Just
like a book club, except with comics. This is an opportunity to get
together and share. To read comics and discuss what you love and perhaps
what you don't love about various comic books. The aim for our club is
to become an organisation promoting awareness and creating support for
the comic book reading culture in Dunedin. A member can suggest reading
both mainstream and independent comics, classic and contemporary, kidz
comics and adult comix, New Zealand comics as well as foreign (US,
British and the world).
