Toronto Comics Arts Festival

So the Toronto Comics Arts Festival is underway.

Hey, isn't Michael Fikaris on the same continent? Yep.

So, I met gary panter (he drew in me book), tony millionaire (we traded pens), chester brown (he rides everywhere here) on the first day as well as dozens of likeminded individuals too numerous to mention...let me say, its feeling like home already.

stall was great, brett from top shelf gave me a section next to jeffrey brown and i talked it up (over beeritos) with the top value sammy harkham of kramers ergot...only to learn he is moving to australia in jan next year...so there you go - yeah, heaps more goss but am in the middle of other things fer a bit...

got a place in a neat area, right near beguilling and am to be featured in two upcoming anthologies - one from montreal.went to comic jam last night - HUGE thing it is. also put true fantasy in a gallery in vancouver BC, opening tomorrow...blah blah. going to meet up with friends in new york at end of month - while tammi tours the states with eliza from the 25th for three weeks...miss all my good friends already! I geuss we are canalians now john...yeah?

Comic Korea

Courtesy Marc Selan
http://saveded.blogspot.com/2005/05/world-comic-artist-conference.html

Coming up at the end of September, the Bucheoon Comic Fair is taking place,
where publishers and artists from all over Asia come and check out each
others work; looking for new talent and what not.

This year, the Korea Cartoonist Association, has budgeted to invite about 40
guests from around the world, concentrating on picking a few artsists and
publishers from each major country. Invited guests will get flights and
accomadation and will be asked to attend presentations, galas and forums.

Publishers and artists are asked to present some sample pages and a resume
of their work to a committee of artists and organisers.
Invitations will be based on the quality of the work, the scope of work and
the importance of that work (''influence and popularity").

The portfolio should have about 8 pages of art (plus or minus a bit) and
then a comprehensive listing of work, plus a biography - including details
of awards, experience.

So if you are published and want to go to Korea, or know some one who would
be good to showcase overseas, contact me at mark_selan * hotmail.com, and I'll
pass your samples on or give you contact details for Joelle (the Buncheon
rep).

Deadline 2 weeks

Tango Vaudeville benefit

Dear friend of Cardigan Comics,

finally, 'Tango Six: Love and Sex', is almost ready to print (if you're reading
this and think, "Hell, Bernard hasn't got my story yet!", then send it now -
the finallest of final deadlines is Sunday 29 May).

And yet before the book can be printed, money is needed to pay the printer, or
the ferryman, or somebody, so I invite you to a benefit vaudeville shindig to
be held, by a curious coincidence, on Sunday 29 May, from 4 - 7pm at a bar
called Wesley Anne, 250 High Street Northcote. That's in Victoria, Australia,
so for those of you who are interstate or international, there's still time to
get transport organised.

The homepage of the website at www.cardigancomics.com has this information in a
prettier version, and if you can think of other people who should come along,
please direct them there.

The book itself will get published next month, so there will be a launch party
in June or July.

Okay! That's all! Come along, it's going to be a great and crazy affair...

Yours,

Bernard Caleo
