If you're in the mood for art exhibitions, you should also check out A fist or a club or something, an Oats Comics exhibition featuring: sugar jon arcus, indira neville, gfrenzy, adrian ganley, stefan neville, tim danko, clayton noone and garbett.

It will be showing from 30th june-21st july (opening 6pm. 30th june.) at SPECIAL gallery. level 1 ,26 customs st.east. downtown auckland. with Live performance by DEAN. plus pies and beers.

"Established in 1993 in Hamilton City of Dreams during the last days of high school and the first days of the dole, Oats initial incarnation as an actual gang proved half-arsed and scary. They realised making comics was not as sore and if you can throw a punch or pick a lock you can just as easily draw a comic.

Over the years titles such as choice guy, darkanus, dad and tracy, nice gravy, city of tales and scorch have appeared under the Oats banner. Oats comics embrace true horror, everyday awe, derelict hilarity, the piss and shit mundane, drunken scribble and the most beautifulist and stupidist.

A Fist or a Club or Something exhibits new works in pen,ink pencil and twink, cellotape, computers, scissors, old dollys, sequins, cardboard, and photocopier. "

Anyone interested in animated depictions of historic suburban battles, successful barbarians, train surfing, lawyer dogs, hand-washing, vampire girls, death metal, superheroes ordering take-out, pointy boobs, burning cats or reality TV should find something to love. Flyer with program attached.

SMALL PRINT ZINEFEST 2005

A veritable bonanza of zines, comics and self-publishing.

Held for the second time in July 2005, Small Print is a series of events promoting and highlighting New Zealand's zine culture.

The programme will include a benefit show featuring Chris Knox, an art opening, a film screening and the main event, a one-day zinefest at Grey Lynn Library Hall including workshops, a reading area, collaborative zine making and trading and selling of small press publications.

Small Print will be a gathering and celebration of New Zealand's self-publishing community. Descended from early science-fiction and music fanzines, today's zines are a DIY alternative to mainstream publishing.

Small Print Director Moira Clunie explains "There are tens of thousands of zines and comics being self-published worldwide currently, and thousands of small presses publishing books. In Auckland, the scene is supported by local shops like Cherry Bomb Comics and The Misfit Theatre, and people are publishing everything from their own poetry to anarchist political rants
to sci-fi comics."

The first Small Print was held in October 2003, and attracted about 250 people. Ms Clunie anticipates a much bigger turnout this year, with at least double the number of exhibitors at the main zinefest and a fuller programme. Visitors are expected from as far afield as Brisbane and
Wellington.

Entrance to most events is free, and open to everyone. To find out more information, see the website at http://smallprint.org.nz.

Contact the organisers at 2005@smallprint.org.nz or phone Moira Clunie on (021) 701 187
